Dianne Chapman Walls, born February 2, 1942 in Gardiner, Maine, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, April 9, 2012, after a catastrophic rupture of a brain aneurysm.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Norman E. Chapman and Beatrice B. Chapman, and a brother, N. Edward Chapman. Dianne's memory will be a blessing and an inspiration to those she left behind: her husband of fifty years, James W. Walls, her son, Peter C. Walls, two grandsons, Benjamin M. Walls and Matthew R. Walls, and a brother, Donald W. Chapman, and many beloved relatives and friends.

Following graduation from Stearns High School (Millinocket, Maine) in 1960, she held numerous administrative positions in Boston, Mass., New Jersey, and Maine. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Happiness to her was spending time with family, especially her grandsons. Caring deeply, she purposefully reached out to family, friends, and everyone she met with compassion and empathy. It was her joy to send cards and notes of encouragement to all. Through her volunteer activities in church (currently Crestwood Presbyterian, Midlothian, VA), her son's school and Scout activities, small group ministries, youth prison fellowship ministry, and as a personal caregiver, she was a living witness to God's grace. Her final act of love was organ donation.

There will be a graveside committal service for family and friends at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn, Maine as below listed.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends spend the precious resource of time with loved ones and, if desired, make a memorial donation to a favored charity.

We, too, were shocked to hear of Dianne's passing. She especially made us welcome at church when we were new members. And we shared that first Christmas at your house. She was such a loving and kind person, The kind of Christian I hope to be. We are grateful that we had the opportunity to know her. We have fond memories of her. May God comfort you.

Aunt Dianne, or "Aunt Di" as many called her, was a woman that when I thought of her, I thought of warmth, extra special love, and it was always a special treat and a special time to be with her. After my Mom Nadine passed into Heaven, somehow Aunt Di seemed to be like a mom to me. Even though she was my Father's sister, she just reminded me of my Mother. Not sure why, not sure how, but there was just some extra dose of loving that she gave....maybe that's why. But no matter the reason, it was a good thing.
She never forgot a birthday card. Then she never forgot my children's birthdays, with a card for them.
I remember seeing her at Mimi's house, wrapping Christmas gifts, at the dining room table, in October....she was very organized and very thoughtful. I think that sense of organization gave some calm to this young and active girl.
She stood up for me at a time in my life when it could have cost her much to do so...but she still did it. That is one thing I will never forget. It was something that was so good and helpful, and loving, in my upside-down world, as a young person struggling with life and independence. She and Uncle Jim had foresight and thoughtfulness and provided love-in-action to a young couple in love, with a baby on the way. Thank you for that. Even thoughtful enough to take pictures and then arrange them in an album so that this young couple in love, who are now much older, have a visible memory of that day we said, "I do." "Thank you" just doesn't cover it ~ but it is a start.
Aunt Di passed into Heaven in April. Today is September 21st. It is hard to say good-bye....hence the long delay in writing. I still can't comprehend that you are gone from this earth, Aunt Di. The tangible things that I have from you will be treasured, and will bring a smile when I see them. You did a fine job at being an Aunt. I only hope that I could be as loving and thoughtful as you. If there are any ways I can help or if you would like to get away for a bit please call. The parsonage has a guest room and the area is a peaceful place for a retreat.
