Dick Hoover

Original member of the Professional Bowlers Association

AKRON, Ohio (Associated Press) - Dick Hoover, one of the original members of the Professional Bowlers Association, died Thursday. He was 79.

The PBA said Hoover died in Akron. No other details were released.

Hoover, who won two American Bowling Congress Masters titles in the 1950s, helped start the PBA in 1958 with founder Eddie Elias, an attorney in Akron, Ohio.

Hoover won four PBA titles, including the Masters and All Star. He was inducted into the United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame in Arlington, Texas, in 1974.

Hoover owned and operated Dick Hoover's Lanes in Brunswick, Ohio.
