Dominic A. Buonocore, former First Selectman and State Representative of the Town of Branford, died peacefully October 17, 2011 at Connecticut Hospice. He was the husband of Julia DellaCamera Buonocore and the late Nancy Rogers Buonocore. Father of Michael, David, Dominic (Nick) and his wife Judy and Ronald and his wife Catherine Buonocore. Brother of Carol (late Salvatore) Ferraro, Florence (late Harlan) Pherson, Carmel (late Danny) Guarino, Rose (Thomas) Gallagher and the late Lucille Jean Lunney and Mary Ferraiolo. Grandfather of Ronald Jr., Cynthia, Claudia, Theresa, Angela and Jordan. Dominic was born in New Haven May 5, 1930 to the late Amelia Casanova Buonocore. He served his country with honor in the Navy during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged he worked as a Professor at Waterbury State Technical College for 25 years. Dominic served the Town of Branford for more than 50 years. He served nine terms on the Board of Selectman, several as Second and Third Selectman and one as Selectman. He later served one term as State Representative from 1992-1996. He was a member of the RTM, the Branford Festival Committee and was Chairman of the Board of the Branford Recreation Department. In June, the basketball court at Hammer Field was named in his honor and next month he will be inducted into the Branford Sports Hall of Fame. Dominic played sandlot football in New Haven as a young man, coached baseball in Branford, was an active parishioner of St. Elizabeth Church and a member of American Legion Post 83. His funeral will leave the IOVANNE FUNERAL HOME, INC. 11 Wooster Pl. Thursday morning at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth Church at 10. Burial with full military honors in East Lawn Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 3-8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice 100 Double Beach Rd.
