Donald L. Blazier, 84, Kokomo, passed away Thursday, March 18,
2010, at 4:04 p.m. at his home. Born June 7, 1925, in Hampshire,
Ill., he was the son of Webster and Matilda Bohn Blazier. He married
June Gissler in Elgin, Ill. on Sept. 8, 1946.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elgin, Ill.,
and was also active in Alto United Methodist Church of Alto. He was
a life member of the United Methodist Men. He served in the 5th
Marine Division of the United States Marine Corps during WWII,
serving in Japan and Hawaii. He worked for the Illinois Bell
Telephone Company for 34 years as a mechanic, craftsman and
motor service foreman.
He and his wife, June, were longtime members of the Elgin Lords
and Ladies Square Dance Club. He was also active with the Boy
Scouts of America, serving in the organization and extention. A gifted
craftsman, he was always ready to share his skills helping his
church, family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Michael W. Blazier and wife Sue,
Kokomo, and Timothy E. Blazier and wife Cindy, Elgin, Ill.; a
daughter, Jill Getzelman and husband Clayton Getzelman,
Momence, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Andrea Blazier, Gail (Blazier)
Bowers, Zoe Blazier, Seth Blazier, Melanie Roberts, Chelsea Bills,
Jacob Getzelman, Amelia Thompson and Alicia Gonzalez; three
great-grandchildren, Sarah Roberts, Emily Roberts and Cedric
Thompson; and a sister, Jacqueline Young.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sister, Helen
Allen; and two brothers, George O. and Webster W. Jr.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster
Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster. Burial will be at a later date in Elgin,
Ill.
