Donald E. Hardy was born April 29, 1942 in Pasco, Washington to parents Donald V. Hardy and Nellie Jane (Peggy) Burdett Hardy. He passed away on July 11, 2009 at home in Kennewick surrounded by his loving family. Don is survived by his wife, Linda, his sons, Donald B. (Kay) Hardy, Todd (Lori) Hardy, Boyd (Tonia) Hardy, stepdaughter, Tiffany South, siblings, Donna (Daryl) Idler, Jerry (Barbara) Hardy, Linda (Mike) Robinson, John Hardy, Judy (John) Osborn, Sherry (Bruce) Little, Uncle Gene Hardy, Aunt Marie Hardy, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and former wife and the mother of his sons, Pat Schmeeckle. Don was dearly loved and called “Grandpa” by Lacey, Callie, Trey, Austin, Alyssa, Tyler and Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Jeffrey. Don will be deeply missed by all members of his large family – his passing definitely leaves a huge gap in all our lives. We are comforted by the knowledge that he has joined his God and found a release for the pain he fought for many years. Family was always Don’s TOP priority so his survivors are left with the reassurance that each of us was loved and cherished by him.He felt that his sons were his greatest accomplishment in life and was so proud of each of them as an adult. So many groups of friends, co-workers and acquaintances will also miss Don. At each stage of his life, he made lasting connections with people. Some of those groups include those with whom he worked during his forty plus years at BNSF, members of his 1960 graduating class at Pasco High with whom he helped plan a reunion every five years, friends and acquaintances at the Tri-City Athletic Club where he served as the club president for many years, wife Linda’s family, friends of his sons, those he met while coaching his sons’ teams along with those he met while attending the majority of the sports events of his very active grandchildren, lifelong friends with whom he golfed, played handball, traveled and socialized, business people at Monad Credit Union where he served on the board, the WSU fans he met in Pullman while tailgating and so many more. Paying tribute to Don and his life will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2009. A family graveside service will be held at the Mausoleum at Desert Lawn Memorial Park (10th and Union –Kennewick) at 9:00 A.M. A “Celebration of Life” memorial will be held at the Cathedral of Joy (1153 Gage Blvd. - Richland) at 10:30 A.M. A light lunch reception will follow the memorial at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society in Don’s name.
