Donald Gene Dawson, age 84, of Benton, KY, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY.

Arrangements are being handled by Collier Funeral Home, P.O. Box 492, Benton, KY. Funeral Service will be held at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline, IL on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Tim Polley officiating. There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 also at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd.. Interment will follow at Moline Memorial Park, Moline, IL. Memorials may be made to John Deere Middle School library.

Mr. Dawson received his Master's Degree from Colorado State University and Bachelor's Degree from Illinois State University. He taught English at John Deere Middle School in Moline, IL. Mr. Dawson was a teacher of English in the Moline School System from 1950 - 1984. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Dawson was the son of the late William Harold Dawson and the late Dorothy (Collins) Dawson.
He married Anna Mae (Cobb) Dawson in 1962 and is survived by: One Daughter: Lynne Polley, husband Tim, Benton, KY; One Son: David Dawson, Moline, IL; Three Sisters: Dorothy Howe, North Port, FL, Mary Felix, Wichita, KS, Marie Fogler, North Port, FL; and Three Grand Children: Sean Polley, Dubuque, Iowa, Ben Polley, Benton, KY, and Julia Dawson, Moline, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Arthur Dawson.
