CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. Donald Gerard Belanger, 60, passed away on December 14, 2011. Don was born in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada on November 22, 1951.
Throughout his life, he lived in Holyoke, Mass., parts of New Hampshire, Florida and found his most recent home on Carolina
Beach, N.C., thanks to his lifelong friend, Bill Schmitter. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, lying on the beach, listening to classic rock and sitting around a fire with his friends.
Don was a graduate of Holyoke High School and received other certificates/licenses for his work later in life. He was employed throughout his life as a truck driver, an HVAC tech and most recently a courier for the American Red Cross.
His most rewarding job was that of a father to his daughters, Jessica Carlson-Belanger, wife of Gus Carlson of Shutesbury, Mass. and Melissa Martin, wife of Matt Martin, of Sunderland, Mass. He is also survived by their mother, Judith Belanger of South Deerfield, Mass. and his five grandchildren, Mary, Peter, and Anna Carlson-Belanger and
Matthew and Leah Martin - who loved to visit him at his beach. He also leaves behind his siblings and their spouses, Normand and Shirley Belanger of Londonderry, N.H., Lizette and Bill Rock of Clifton Park, N.Y., Pat and Bruce Whitehead of West Springfield, Mass. and Colette and Al Higgins of Eden, Md., along with many nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Jeanette (Beaulieu) Belanger, his father, Lucien Belanger, and his brother, Gilles Belanger.
A memorial luncheon will be held on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 12:00 noon at the Delaney House, 3 Country Club Road, Holyoke, Mass. 01040. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Columbia, is assisting the family.
