Donald Roland Mosley, was born on September 5, 1927 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the Late Rosemond Elizabeth Badger-Mosley and Elijah Louis Mosley. Donald, affectionately known as "Duck" to many friends, was the first born of nine children (seven brothers and one sister). In 1933, Donald and his family moved to Roselle, New Jersey where he attended the Roselle Public Schools and graduated from Abraham Clark High School in 1945. Donald grew up in and was a member of Heard A. M. E. Church in Roselle, New Jersey where he participated as a member of the Emergency Choir and Sunday School. After many years of faithful membership in the Heard AME Church, Donald attended Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Roselle for the past 17 years. On October 22, 1966, Donald was joined in holy matrimony to Elaine Lewis and to this union they were blessed with a son, Jeffery Donald Mosley. Along with Elaine's son Robert, the family moved to Passaic Avenue in Linden, New Jersey. As a young man, Donald was employed by the United States Postal Service in Elizabeth, New Jersey where he served as a Mail Sorter for over thirteen years. After leaving the Post Office, he worked at several full-time and part-time jobs including Schultz and Son as a Truck Loader and Southern Market as a Butcher. He later took a position at Exxon Refinery in Linden, New Jersey as a Carpenter. After seventeen years of employment, he retired from Exxon in 1988 allowing him to pursue his leisure interests. Donald loved sports and was known as an avid bowler having belonged to several bowling leagues throughout his lifetime. His love for the game led him to a part-time position as Assistant Manager at Jersey Lanes for many years. His retirement also allowed him ample time to follow his love for high school basketball. Donald closely followed Linden High School Basketball and was known by many throughout the state of New Jersey, appearing at many tournament and championship games. Donald endured long bouts of pain, but suffered no more as he departed this life on September 5th, the same day that he came into the world. He leaves behind his wife, Elaine Mosley; two sons, Jeffery of Atlanta, Georgia and Robert (Elgina) of Lumberton, New Jersey; three brothers, Clarence of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Sinclair (Ollie) of Chesapeake, Virginia, Charles (Cynthia) of Roselle, New Jersey and Kevin (Priscilla) of McDonough, Georgia; one sister, Maurice "Sister" (John) Cummins of Roselle. He also leaves to cherish his memory, four grandchildren, Jarelle, Brandon, Wesley, and Janae; two great-grandchildren, Jarelle and Janyah'le; nieces and nephews as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Come unto Me all ye that labor and are heavy-laden and I will give you rest. ~Mathew 11:28 This Online Memorial has been created to commemorate the life of Donald Roland Mosley.
