Donell LaSalle Wright was born to the parentage of Mary Alice McWilliams and Clabe Wright on November 15, 1946. Donell grew up in Karnack, Texas and was reared by his paternal grandparents Leola and Mack Smith who preceded him in death.

He started his journey with Christ at an early age at the Antioch Baptist Church in Karnack. After marriage he joined Cedar Crest CME Church where he was an active member of the Early Morning Choir and the Oree Broomfield Sunday School Class until his health failed.

Donell received his formal education at G.W. Carver High School where he played basketball and baseball. After graduation he served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He later attended El Centro College in Dallas, Teas and MTA Truck Driving School. He was employed in various positions in the transportation industry for over 30 years. In 2005 he founded the A-Rite Car Service, which he owned and operated until his retirement.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Hilburn on March 10, 1984. He was the proud father of three children, Dunyell, Damiyun and Desha. Donell was a loving husband and father who worked hard to provide for his family. He was a friend who you could depend on through good and not so good at times.

Donell answered the Lord's call early Tuesday morning at the age of 65. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alice Scoggins; and grandparents. He leaves to cherish his external memories: Wife of 28 years, Patricia Wright; three children, Dunyell Wright, Damiyun Wright and Desha Wright-Slaughter (Cartney); one brother, John McWilliams (Margie); four sisters, Sandra Walker, Carolyn Anderson, Jada Walters (Gordon), and Tammye McWilliams. He was PaPa to five granddaughters and a host of nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.
