Memorial services for Donnie Lee Wood, 67, of Caldwell are set for 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Our loving Dad and (Little) Papa went to be with the Lord December 24, 2010 in Bryan, Texas. He was born July 21, 1943 in Memphis, Texas and grew up in Amarillo. Donnie lived in several Texas cities during his lifetime including Sulphur Springs, Tyler, Smithville, Bryan and finally Caldwell. He made his living working and traveling for Ward Exploration in Tyler in Seismographic oil exploration. He retired from the field in 1992. This type of work set well with his soul because Donnie was a free spirit, loved the outdoors and exploring and working with his hands. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, building and making "anything out of anything" and had several pets he loved and cared for. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. He attended many of their sporting events, school functions and spent time teaching them about the outdoors. "Doodlebugging" took him to Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the Mexican Jungle. Donnie is survived by his mother; Edith M. Blanks of Sulphur Springs, his brother Joe H. Blanks and wife Martha Blanks of Sulphur Springs, a nephew Michael Blanks of Gilmer, Texas, daughter; Edi Lee Havemann and husband Shane, grandchildren; Sabrina Lee and Leah Renee of Caldwell, son; Chad Lee Wood and wife Estephanita and grandchild Cameron Lee of Terrell, daughter; Suzette Guillotte and grandchild Kaitlyn and Cody, daughter; Shirl Page and husband Dan and grandchildren; Kristen Lee, Jared, Katie of Wylie, Texas, and daughter; Sonia Prestemon and husband Brian and grandchild; Mark of Plano, Texas and lots of extended family and friends. We will miss Donnie's gentle spirit, his laugh and his sense of humor. As his earthly body grew weaker his gentle spirit became stronger. "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the Strength of my heart and my portion forever." Psalm 73:26 Donnie is now free and "on the road again" in his heavenly home. The family is grateful to Dr. Kennon Wigley @ CTH and the staff @ St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Sherrie Bolden and Dee Dee McPherson for their exceptional care. Donnie was preceded in death by his grandparents Ed and Roxy Wyninegar, his father Charles H. Blanks and brother; Tommy I. Blanks. The family requests memorials to be made the American Heart Association, PO Box 15186, Austin, Texas 78761
