Mrs. Dora A. (Herbst) O'Toole, 91, a resident of Quincy Village and formerly of Eastland Road, Waynesboro, died at 9:14 A.M., Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in the nursing home. She had been in failing health for the past month. Born July 19, 1920 in Ringgold, MD, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (Leather) Herbst. She lived her early life in the Ringgold area. Mrs. O'Toole graduated from Smithsburg High School with the class of 1937. She later graduated from the Waynesboro Business College. She and her husband, the late William E. O'Toole, Jr., were married on April 19, 1941 in St Mary's Catholic Church, Hagerstown, MD. Mr. O'Toole died in December 13, 1966. Mrs. O'Toole was a secretary at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro, for over 33 years, retiring in 2005. She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro, the National AARP, and served on the Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Mrs. O'Toole enjoyed reading, gardening, and taking walks. She is survived by four children, William E. O'Toole of Emmitsburg, MD, Dennis R. O'Toole of Waynesboro, Robert J. O'Toole of Waynesboro, and Angela M. Temple of Mt. Airy, MD; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, John Herbst of Smithsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Frey; and two brothers, Robert Herbst and Elvin Herbst. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 16, 2011 in St. Andrew Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Rev. John Bateman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery, Waynesboro. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Friday morning, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Andrew Catholic Church or St. Andrew Catholic School, both of 12 N.
