Dora E. DeVore
Greenville, SC

Dora Elliott Cook DeVore, 94, went home to be with her Lord, on November 5, 2011.

Born in Statesville, NC, to Effie Mae Carrigan Elliott and Wilson Green Elliott, she moved to Greenville at the age of seventeen. She graduated from Celeste Hinkle High School and Draughns Business School. She was a Piece Goods Department Head and Buyer at Belk Simpson for twelve years, going on buying trips to Charlotte and working for Mr. Henry Simpson. She became a charter member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in 1955, where she taught kindergarten and was the treasurer and Sunshine Chairman of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She attended St. Matthew for fifty-six years.

She was married to Wesley Cook (her beloved Cookie), who passed away in 1973 and to John Newton DeVore, who passed away in 1981. She was predeceased by her five brothers and sisters, Frances Elliott Greer, Charles Lee Elliott, Zula Elliott Deal, Robert Glenn Elliott, and Bunn Kenneth Elliott. She is survived by her loving family, daughter, Betty Cook Shull and her husband Michael; grandchildren, Megan Shull Coleman (Blake) and Andrew Murray Shull; attentive nephew, Charles Elliott and wife, Sandra; daughters of thirty seven years, Bobbie DeVore Jones and her husband Jim, and Dale DeVore Waldrop and her husband Harrell; grandchildren, Sharon Jones Cibene, Linda Jones Price (Carl), Darlene Jones Segars (George), Mandy Waldrop Vann (Mark), Eric Waldrop (Kresha) and Lynn Elizabeth Waldrop.

The home going service will be Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 11:00am at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 701 Cleveland Street with the Reverend Dr. James E. Hunter officiating. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:45 to 10:45am prior to the service in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to St. Matthew United Methodist Church.
