Rufolo, Dora, age 80, passed away on Monday, May 7, after a brief illness at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD. She was born and raised in New York City, living in the Murray Hill section in the Kips Bay Plaza apartments before moving to Severna Park, MD, several years ago.
She attended and graduated from private schools in Manhattan's Upper East Side and subsequently was hired as an administrative assistant by Blue Cross/Blue Shield, where she worked for 40 years, until she retired in management in 1991. Dora Rufolo traveled many places throughout the world with her late parents, Ernesto and Assunta Rufolo. She also enjoyed taking cruises to Bermuda after her retirement.
Other interests included going to see operas at the Metropolitan Opera House, and Broadway plays. She also enjoyed classic movies, one of her favorites being "Breakfast at Tiffany's." She loved New York and the song by Frank Sinatra, "New York, New York." In the 1960s, she was also a huge fan of singer Engelbert Humperdinck, having attended many of his shows in New York. She was a devout Catholic and was a member of Our Lady of the Scapular and Saint Stephen's Church on East 29th Street, where she attended Mass daily.
Dora is predeceased by two brothers, Anthony Rufolo, who passed away just two weeks before her, and Oreste J. Rufolo, who died in 2006. Dora has no children but is survived by one nephew, Christopher A. Rufolo, Woodstock, MD; nieces Marianne Rufolo Graham, Stevensville, MD; Linda Rufolo Perata, Park City, Utah; Sandra Rufolo, Holtsville, NY; and Lori Rufolo Westerhold, Madison, NJ; and 13 great nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at the Chapel at Household of Angels in Severna Park, MD on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 6 PM. A short reception will follow.
