Doris Allison Roth was born on February 26, 1923 in Strasburg, OH. Throughout her childhood, she loved school & was an outstanding student. She participated in sports of all kinds & played clarinet in the band.
After her graduation from Strasburg High School in 1941, she started training at the Massillon City Hospital School of Nursing. In 1944, she joined the student Cadet Nurse Corps & worked at Hines Veteran's Hospital in Chicago until the end of World War II. She then returned to Massillon and graduated as the president of her class in 1945. She practiced nursing at Massillon & eventually joined the faculty in the School of Nursing.
Shortly after her marriage in 1956 to John Roth, they moved to Clearwater, Florida where they raised their two children, Eric Roth and Wendy Roth. Doris was an active member of Grace Lutheran church in Clearwater since 1960. She sang in the choir and was a member of the Altar Guild. Through the years of raising her children, she was an involved parent. She coached some of the earliest girls softball teams in Dunedin and was the scorekeeper for countless baseball games for Dunedin Little League, Babe Ruth League, and the Dunedin High School Falcons. She embraced the Scottish heritage of the Dunedin Middle School and High School bands and was a loyal booster while her children were members of those organizations.
In the mid 90's, Doris began her long journey with Alzheimer's disease. In spite of the set -back, she continued to enjoy attending the activities of her grandchildren. She also continued her love of sports and music. She was a participant and spectator of both. She loved Dunedin and the wonderful quality of life there. Among her many pleasures during her disease were car rides to the beach, caring for her flowers, listening, singing, and dancing to music, dessert of any kind, loving "Jenny" the cat, watching children at play, especially Zachary and Claire, and maybe most of all, she enjoyed the thousands of puzzle pieces that were assembled over the years on the dining room table at home.
She was preceded in death by her husband John. Survived by her son Eric (Charlotte) and daughter Wendy; grandchildren Kevin and Zachary Daniels ; Claire and Heather McDermott ; cousin Diana Yareff of Ohio.
.Her many caregivers were a tremendous blessing to her. They gave her the gift of their time and talents and in return she was able to maintain a wonderful quality of life. Her endearing qualities during the last years were indeed an inspiration to her family and friends.
