Doris "Jerry" G. (Hibler) Gerland August 23, 1927 ~ June 4, 2011 Funeral services are set for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Somerville with Rev. Corby Brezendine officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until the time of the service at First Baptist Church. Jerry, as she was known to everyone, was born August 23, 1927 in San Saba, Texas, the daughter of Cody Mack "Bill" and Lottie Lee (Smithwick) Hibler. She entered into God's arms, from her home in Somerville, after a brief illness. Leaving to mourn her passing, are her beloved husband of 66 years, Oliver V. Gerland; her son and daughter-in-law, Bill K. and Barbara Gerland; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamula and Ron Stewart, Martha S. and Dallas Berry, and Deborah True; nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Patsy Pudifin, Lou Datray, and Bobbie Donat. Meeting Jerry at Heaven's gate will be her parents; her two brothers; grandchildren, Duane and Patrick White and Michael Blackwood, Jr. along with great-granddaughter, Gracie Gerland. Jerry was a loving, Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always put others before herself. She was family oriented and loved to cook huge meals for her family and friends. She always enjoyed visiting with friends and eating after a service with them at First Baptist Church in Somerville, where she was a member. She loved to read and work puzzles and working in her flower beds. Jerry spent a lot of time researching, gathering and sorting information on genealogy of both her family and her husband's family. Her granddaughters and grandsons brought much love to her and then later her great-grandchildren brought her more love. Family members have requested that memorials in Jerry's memory be made to First Baptist Church of Somerville. Serving as pallbearers are Jonathan Gerland, Wayne Stewart, Scott Stewart, Stephen Breckenridge, Bill Carl Pudifin and Dallas Berry. Arrangements have been entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. We invite you to visit our website at www.stricklandfuneralhomes.com and sign the on-line register book for Jerry.
