She married Albert T. Girouard on September 20, 1942 in San Francisco, CA., while Albert was serving in the U.S. Army. They lived many years in Worcester, and Northboro, MA., while Albert worked as a sales executive for Thomas Smith Company. Doris worked as a retail manager for Estee Lauder in the Jordan Marsh store, Worcester for several years. She and Albert retired in 1982 to Titusville, FL before moving to Brewster, MA six years later.

She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Albert, who died in 2015; her sisters Alice Graham of PA., Geraldine Bruinsma of Holden, MA., and Gladys Bruinsma of Worcester, MA., and PA.

Doris was a passionate Red Sox Fan and cherished her beloved Ted Williams and "YAZ". She also followed the Boston Celtics since the 1950's and loved watching natives Bob Cousy and Tommy Heinsohn. She also loved poetry and reading books, especially Ogden Nash writings and Louis L'Amour books.
She was a wonderful cook, loved music and dancing. She liked to sing along with her favorite singers F. Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Ella Fitzgerald. Often at family gatherings, her husband would break out his guitar and they would sing a few classic standards that they both loved. Doris was a member of Wesley Methodist Church for many years while in Worcester, and loved being involved in various activities and social events at the church. Other passions were tending to her gardens, playing dominoes, Bingo, and especially loved getting the children and grandchildren together for hilarious board and card games, ice cream and a nice hot cup of coffee with Al at Skaket Beach. She loved being with her family.
