Doris J. ''Dorie'' Ushman, of Bath, formerly of Springfield, died at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday January 16th, 2001 at St. John's Hospital Hospice in Springfield. She was born February 22nd, 1945 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph & Margaret Kersulis Buskis. She married Charles R. ''Chuck'' Ushman April 7th, 1971. Along with her husband, Mrs. Ushman founded Ushman Communications in 1977 and served as Vice-President and records supervisor since that time. Mrs Ushman, a professional musician for all her adult life, was the leader of the Dorie Ushman Band and played with her husband in the Chuck Ushman Orchestra. Mrs. Ushman is best known, in recent years, as a member of the Slovenian Strollers, a trio playing and singing American and Ethnic music. While performing at many charitable events, retirement homes, and hospitals, they also have performed at the Illinois State Fair, Springfield Ethnic Festival, and Southwest Polka Festival in Las Vegas. Mrs. Ushman also organized the Springfield Ethnic Singers, a chorus performing several polka masses annually, over the past ten years. She belonged to numerous clubs and organizations, including a First Responder for the Bath Illinois Life Support Group, having attended training and received certificates in First Aid. She was preceded in death by her Parents; her Biological Mother-Bernice Truss; Brother- Joseph Buskis, Jr.; and Sister-Donna Mester. Surviving are her Husband-Charles R. ''Chuck'' Ushman of Bath, IL; Daugther- Julie (Husband-Matthew) Ushman-Peterson of Ashland; Siblings- Bernandine Davidson of Springfield, Robert Willhite of Sherman, IL, Beverly Fagg of Pleasanton, Texas, and Jerry Truss of San Antonio, Texas; two step-sons: James D. Ushman of Springfield, and Daniel C. Ushman of Ocala, FL; several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews; and a step grandson- James Dale Ushman II. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday January 19th, 2001 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 South 6th Street in Springfield, with a Wake Service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday January 20th, 2001 at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Patrick Church in Springfield with the Rev. Brian Barker celebrant. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
