Doris M. Jaques was born August 12, 1922 in Portland, Oregon to Rosina A. and Lawrence E. Jaques. Doris became the eldest of three, her brothers were Robert Bob Jaques and Donald Don Jaques. Doris graduated from Franklin High School in 1939 and then married Joseph Joe R. Gately Sr. on April 18, 1941. Doris and Joe raised 4 children: Joseph Richard Jr. Dick, Colleen Elaine, David Edward and Gloria Eileen. Doris was primarily a homemaker but had a passion for politics and ran for Clackamas County Commissioner in the early 1970s. Doris had a knack for sewing, knitting and crochet. She also played the piano and loved music. Other hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles and gardening. Her ability to craft, cook and bake led rich Christmas traditions for her family and she loved the role of Mrs. Claus making lists and checking them twice so every member of the family had a wonderful Christmas with gifts under the tree. Her lists kept getting bigger through the years as a Grandma of 8 along with 12 Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren but she loved the growing family. Doris also worked very hard on coordinating and updating her family tree with each new addition by marriage or birth. Along with 64 years of marriage Doris and Joe traveled all over the country and most parts of the world after Joe retired. Doris was so proud of their ability to see so many places and cultures that she made scrapbooks of their travels and also displayed a world map on her wall with pushpins marking each place they had been so she could show friends and family. She never stopped thinking of her family while traveling and made sure to bring back treasures for everyone. Doris will be remembered telling friends and family that she and Joe had a good life. Family and friends will remember Doris for bringing joy and love into their lives for all of her 88 years. Doris was predeceased by husband Joe in December of 2005 as well as both of her brothers Bob and Don Jaques. Doris is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Mass Christian Burial will be held to celebrate Doris at 11am on Tuesday, November 9th, 2010, Christ the King Catholic Church, 11709 SE Fuller Rd., Milwaukie, OR 97222 In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Mother and Child, 1515 NE 41st St., Portland, OR 97232.
