Dorner E. Ashworth
Simpsonville, SC

Dorner Evans Ashworth, 69, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, November 16, 2011 with his family by his side.

Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, he was a son of the late Dorner Everett and Ruth Evans Ashworth.

He was a 1959 graduate of Portsmouth High School and received his BS in 1964 from Ohio University. Following his graduation, Dorner joined the USAF and was commissioned 2nd Lt. on February 9, 1965. He trained for Minute Man Missle Deputy Launch Officer USAF in Illinois and California, was assigned and served at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota from 1964 to 1969 and returned to Cleveland, Ohio upon discharge in 1969 with the attained rank of Captain as Launch Control Commander.

He joined Reliance Electric Company in 1969 and retired from Reliance Electric, then a division of Rockwell Automation, in 2006.

Dorner served as president of CLP sports league and was a coach to many of his children's sports teams. He enjoyed taking the family on weekend hikes to The Holden Arboretum and canoeing on Brightwood Lake, visiting the shores of Lake Erie and watching his Ohio sports teams on TV.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 46 years, and mother of his five children, Dona McLeod Ashworth, of the home; his daughters and sons-in-law, Laurel Ashworth-Fulmer and her husband, Karl Fulmer of Concord, Ohio, and Kristine Rettberg and her husband, Mitchell, of Simpsonville; his sons and daughters-in-law, William Ashworth and his wife, Diana Trebets Ashworth of Delaware, Ohio, Brian Ashworth and his wife, Kim Lubsen Ashworth, of Simpsonville, and Kenneth Ashworth and his wife, Sarah McComb Ashworth of Simpsonville; his brother and sister-in-law, James and June Booth Ashworth of Huntington, WV; and his beloved grandchildren, Karleigh and Evan Fulmer, Colin, Dylan and Braden Ashworth, Kalie, Maarijka and Derek Ashworth, Mary Catherine and Caroline Ashworth, and Alexandra Rettberg.

Funeral services will be 12pm, Monday, November 21st at The Mackey Mortuary.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5pm at the mortuary.

Interment will be private.
