Dorothy Wood Asbell, age 85, of Altamonte Springs, Florida passed away peacefully on September 25, 2011 at Florida Living Nursing Home in Apopka, Florida.

She was born on August 18, 1926 in Birmingham, Alabama to her parents, Fred and Irma Wood. Dorothy was the older of 2 girls. She attended Miami (Florida) High School and graduated in 1943. She married George Asbell in Birmingham, Alabama on November 10, 1946. They had 4 children. She was a resident of Altamonte Springs, Florida for 13 years, having moved to Florida from Peachtree City, Georgia, where they lived for more than two decades. Dorothy was a member of First Baptist Sweetwater. She was always active in her church.

Dorothy will be remembered by her children as a loving, caring and giving Mother and friend. She is survived by sons Fred of Washington, DC, Douglas and Cynthia Asbell of Clermont, Florida, David and Donna Asbell of Nesbit, Mississippi; daughter Beth and Scott Delbridge of Dove Canyon, California; grandsons John, Jason, and Christopher; great grandsons Evan and Luke; and her sister, Jane Scruggs of Birmingham, Alabama. She was predeceased in death by her loving husband George in 2006.

Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of life for Dorothy at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at First Baptist Sweetwater, 3800 Wekiva Springs Road, Longwood, Florida 32779. Visitation with the family will be at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Apopka, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Sweetwater or to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
