Dorothy Bartlett Davis, 87, passed away on April 9, 2011, into the Arms of her Loving Lord and Savior. Dot was orphaned at age 3, along with her 5 year old sister Carolyn and a younger brother John Bartlett. They were all adopted by Gillie and Letcher Bartlett, who had already raised two daughters of their own, Ethel Austin and Eleanor Smith, all of whom predeceased her. She fully expects to meet them all in heaven. Left to cherish her memory, she is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, William J. Davis; two sons, Galen (Rocky) Edney and wife Mary and Wayne Edney and wife Michelle; a beloved step-daughter, Laura Bucher and husband Jim; two step-sons, James Davis and daughter Elizabeth of Dallas, TX; and Be Ha and wife Ying of Albany, NY. Dot is also survived by 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who have affectionately known her as Mamaw Dot, all of whom have brought great joy to her life. A lifelong resident of Hampton Roads, she was employed by the Chesapeake Police Department for 31 years as an accountant, retiring in 1983. She was a graduate of Granby High School Class of 1941. As an avid bridge player, she loved the many friends she had made both while playing it, and through her Sunday School classes. Her greatest happiness came from the time she spent with family. She was a member of Suburban Christian Church, 5132 Bellamy Manor Drive, where memorial services will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at 11 a.m., with Dr. Robert Grimes officiating. Burial service will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will greet friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
