COLUMBIA - Dorothy Evelyn Darby Brooker, 87, widow of James Stivender Brooker, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at Still Hopes Episcopal Home in West Columbia. Dot was born in Newberry on January 25, 1925, the daughter of the late Fred Ellisor and Sara Wessinger Darby. Dot moved to Columbia at an early age after the death of her mother. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Inez and Mannie Holt, who owned Holts Barber Shop in Five Points for many years. Dot was a retired Certified Radiology Technician with Dr. Mostello's practice. She was a long time member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are nephew, Fred G. Darby; nieces, Carol Merchant, Meg Muir, all of West Columbia; nephew, Donald Livingston and niece, Judy Livingston, of Texas and niece, Sara Francis Finnecy, of Florida. She is also survived by a number of great-nephews and great-nieces and her special friend, Barbara Testor.
Dot's funeral will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Lowery Unit and the Jane Bruce Guinyard Skilled Care Unit at Still Hopes for their wonderful and compassionate care of Dot during her final years.
