Dorothy Ella Skaggs, 97, of Liberty, MO, died Saturday, May 21, 2011. She was a lifelong Baptist and a founding member of Rocky Point Baptist Church in Judsonia, Arkansas. The family moved to Odessa, MO, from Judsonia prior to moving to Liberty in 1956 where she became a member of Second Baptist Church, the Women’s Missionary Union, and the Fortnightly Study Club. She taught Sunday School for decades, was a wonderful seamstress, quilt-maker, painter, musician, and gardener.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Dee Skaggs, and her beloved son Jerry Skaggs. Her survivors include her son Bill Skaggs of Kansas City, MO; Rev. Janice Skaggs of Federal Way, WA and four grandchildren, Susan Sotelo of Rio Rico, AZ; Kelly Skaggs of Durham, NC; Trent Skaggs of Gladstone, MO and Evan Booth Skaggs of Federal Way, WA. Nine great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and extended family members will also remember her with love.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, May 26 at Second Baptist Church, 300 E. Kansas St., Liberty, MO with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery, Liberty.
