Dorothy G. (Bessex) Dorie, 89, of Marquette, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 24, 2011 in the Hospice Unit at Marquette General Hospital after a brief illness with her loving family at her side and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice. Mrs. Dorie was born on February 24, 1922 in Marquette; a daughter of the late William D. and Leona (Siegel) Bessex and resided in this area all of her life. A devoted mother, grandmother and friend, Dorothy is survived by 5 children, Warren (Alice) Fuller of Lily, WI, Judy (John) Swajanen of Big Bay, Douglas (Katherine) Dorie of Negaunee, Brian Dorie of Kenton, MI and Annette (Keith) Olander of Marquette; 10 grandchildren, Joey Fuller, Patty Livingston, Pamela Jones, Cindy Karnitz, Craig Widman, Curtis Swajanen, Gregg Swajanen, Nicole Dorie, Jacob Dorie and MaLynda Taskila; 15 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren; a sister, Sally DesJardins of Marquette; her former husband, Wallace H. Dorie of Kenton, MI; also many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death besides her parents was a grandson, Scott Fuller; a great grandson, Brent Swajanen; brothers, Warren, Bill and Jack Bessex; one sister, Jean Bessex and an infant brother. Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big Bay on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at the church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lawrence Gauthier officiating. Burial will take place in the Powell Township Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are kindly asked to consider the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans Activity Fund, 425 Fisher St., Marquette, MI 49855 in Mrs. Dorie's memory.
