Dorothy Jane Lee, 90, life-long resident of Liberty, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011. She is survived by her son, Robert Collins Lee of Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death in 1998 by her husband of 56 years, Earle Scott Lee. She attended the public schools of Liberty and was a 1941 graduate of William Jewell College. Her working career included writing for the The Liberty Chronicle, Liberty, Missouri and during World War II was city editor of the The Paris Post, a daily newspaper in Paris, Tennessee. She was employed a number of years at Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company in Kansas City and during the 1960’s, taught English and drama in the Liberty public schools. She was the chairperson for the Clay County sesquicentennial pageant in 1972 and later chaired the 150th anniversary celebration in 1987 of the Liberty Christian Church, where she was a member for 81 years. She helped found the first church sponsored and state licensed day care center in Liberty; the swingset at the Liberty Christian Church; and remained on its teaching staff. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Omicron—Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She was active in church and civic drama groups. She was also an organist, playing at various churches in the area, including 15 years at the Lawson Christian Presbyterian Church. And for many years, was the organist for Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty.
