Dorothy Jean (Walters) Wilks was blessed to be born into this world on January 14, 1934, to beloved parents Henry Lee (Papa) a Lucinda (Big Mama) Walters. Dorothy was the baby girl to seven sisters and five brothers. Both parents and 4 sisters and 4 brothers have preceded her in death. Dorothy attended elementary and Benson High School where she was an accomplished athlete, playing on the girls basketball team in Ellisville, MS. Dorothy found her calling for Souls for God as she traveled with her father Pastor Henry Lee Walters, who conducted revivals at various churches throughout Mississippi. In the late 1950's Dorothy moved to St. Louis with her sister the late Mother Annie Mae Williams, and soon was saved sanctified and Holy Ghost filled. She placed her membership under the leading of the late Pastor Hiram Ball, National COGIC, where she served him faithfully, under the anointing and blessed ability of God, through many auxiliaries in the Church. Sunday School Teacher, Prayer and Bible Band President, Senior Choir President, Mother's Board, Pastor's Aide Leader for over 20 years as well as visiting the sick, Radio and Prison and Nursing Home Ministries with her loving husband, Elder Robert L. Wilks. Dorothy enjoyed seeing the Church grow and helping to win lost souls to the Kingdom of God, she always gave this call to one and all "the King is coming". Dorothy was a woman who was blessed by God and Highly favored, she was blessed with an anointing of singing and Spiritual discernment a woman of prayer and great faith. Mother Wilks, as she has been lovingly called, was a woman who believed nothing was impossible or too hard for God. She often stated if God told her to jump through a wall, she believed that God would provide the hole for her to jump through, because her faith was just that strong. Mother Wilks loved all and was a mentor, friend, prayer warrior, and counselor, she truly had the souls of men and women on her heart. She served faithfully without wavering until her health failed, and she was called home to rest and reward in that beautiful place called Heaven. Mother Wilks leaves to cherish her loving memory, faith and praying legacy to her devoted family: her friend, companion, prayer partner Life Long Loving Husband of over 48 years, Elder Robert Lee Wilks; her devoted Loving and Caring daughters, Debbie (Elder Timothy Green, her favorite son-in-law as she Lovingly called him) and Lisa Pearl Leach Wilks; two stepdaughters, Vershandale Waton, and Marcie Wilks, Las Vegas; grandchildren, Candace (Michael) Sloan, Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany, Constance Green, Timothy (Chelsey) Green, Rachael (Calvin) Jones, St. Louis, MO; great- grandchildren, Nevaeh, MJ, Cayleigh, CJ (2-24-12); two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Young and Mrs. Mary Alice Houze; one brother, Mr. Fred Walters, Ellisville, MS; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Anna Lucille Blanchard, Mrs. Mildred Johnson, Mrs. Dorothy Williams and Mrs. Barbara (Elder Charles Madison); brothers-in-law, Mr. Freddie (Judy) Wilks and Mr. Jodie (Alma) Wilks; a host of nieces and nephews; one devoted niece, Mary Johnson, St. Louis, and one special god daughter, Dorasyl.
