Dorothy M. McHugh, of Virginia Beach, VA, died July 17, 2012, at the age of 87. She was born in Worcester, MA, the daughter of the late Thomas F. Kelly and Catherine F Tucker. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 53 years, Raymond F. McHugh. She moved to Virginia Beach from New England in 1969. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen P. Kutnak, widow of Michael J. Kutnak, of Virginia Beach, VA; her daughter, Maura H. McHugh and her husband Gregory J. Olson of Phoenix, AZ; her two sons, Brian F. McHugh and Dr. Thomas J. McHugh of Virginia Beach, VA; her two grandchildren, Michael J. Kutnak of Christiansburg, VA, and Kathleen M. Kutnak of Virginia Beach, VA; and her brother, Gerard T. Kelly and his wife Patricia Cunningham Kelly of Charlotte, NC; and her sister-in-law, Pauline A. Murray McHugh of Worcester, MA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy attended St. Peters High School in Worcester, MA where she was awarded a full scholarship to Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, MA. At "The Elms" she graduated with honors with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry with minors in English, Biology and Philosophy. After receiving her degree she worked as a chemist in a variety of jobs including The Worcester Foundation, Worcester Memorial Hospital, Yale University and Quantum Industrials. Dorothy was known for her keen intellect, warm personality, fabulous sense of style and her unwavering devotion to her family. She was a beloved mother and grandmother and will be forever missed. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in The Church of the Holy Family on 1279 Great Neck Road. Burial will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home on 1264 Great Neck Road on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in Dorothy's name to Elms College, 291 Springfield Street, Chicopee, MA 01013.
