Dorothy S. Palmer died peacefully on March 19th at Heath Village in Hackettstown, NJ. She was 94. She was born in Lansing, Michigan but grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She lived in Morristown, NJ for forty years before moving to the retirement community of Heath Village in 1998.
Mrs. Palmer attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio where she was a member of Chi Omega national sorority. She received her A.B. degree from Kalamazoo College then obtained her Master's Degree in Social Work from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work, Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri.
Mrs. Palmer held social work positions at the Family Society of Philadelphia; Department of Social Work, Greystone Psychiatric Hospital; and in the Psychiatric Department of Morristown Memorial Hospital. She was a field work instructor for the Rutgers Graduate School of Social Work and the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Work. She was listed in "Who's Who of American Women" and "Who's Who in the East" during the years 1972 to 1975. She belonged to the National Association of Social Workers and the Academy of Certified Social Workers.
After her retirement, Mrs. Palmer was active in many Morristown social work endeavors. She served on the board of the Richmond Fellowship and the Human Services Association in Morris County. Recently. she was President of the Women's Association at Heath Village.
Mrs. Palmer was an active member of St. Peters Episcopal Church serving on various committees as well as on the Altar Guild and the Wilks Fund Committee. She chaired the Inreach Committee at its inception.
Mrs. Palmer was predeceased by her husband, John A. Palmer, in 1992, their youngest son, William B., in 1974, and her brother Harold B. Simpson.
Survivors include her two sons John A., Jr. of Long Valley, NJ and David S. of Hopewell, NJ; her brothers Donald F. Simpson of McLean, VA.; five granddaughters and six great grandchildren.
