Douglas Jay "Smooth" Carter passed away Monday, March 21, 2011. He was born in Plymouth, Indiana, November 18, 1957. Doug lived in New Orleans, Louisiana, and later settled in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he had lived for 25 years. He was a job site foreman for West Tampa Glass for 15 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Fern Estelle (Keyser) Carter. He is survived by his sisters, Patricia Himes of South Bend, Indiana and Teresa (Craig) Mattke of Plymouth; his brothers, Timothy (Christine) Carter, of Lynchburg, Virginia, Steven Carter of Plymouth, and Edward Carter of St. Petersburg; his "second" mother, Sharon Carter of Rochester, Indiana; his "other" sisters, Teri McCormick, Pam Praphafphakis, Patti Zrubek, and Tina Baloy; four nieces; eight nephews; and 20 great-nieces and nephews. Doug's family would like to thank his most cherished friends, Scott and Gina, Jon and Sharon, Bobbie and Ron, Rick and Cathy, Bill and Theresa, and his riding buddy, Curly. Also his caring neighbors and his other families, the West Central Florida Harley Biking Community, Biff Burger, Big Shot, and everyone at West Tampa Glass. To the friends he valued his entire life, Kirk Kuskye, Kent Thornburg, Charlie Driebelbis, David "Charger" Hollingsworth, Butch Gibson, and Herbie Eads: Doug never told a story without one of you in it! Doug's greatest love was his dog Harley Carter and his cat Casper Carter. His very last words were "please take care of my babies". We promise you brother, we will. So go now. Be free. Feel the wind on your face and rest in peace. Services will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., at the House of Prayer, 12450 Plymouth-Goshen Trail, Plymouth, with Pastor R.D. Humphrey, officiating. Interment at New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth, will follow immediately after the service.
