Douglas Leon Darden Family and friends will gather together Thursday, November 19, 2009 2:00 p.m. at East Mountain Baptist Church to celebrate the life of Douglas Leon Darden. Reverends Wes Sherman and Aubrey Pate will officiate the service. Doug was born April 18, 1956 in El Paso, Texas to Doyle L. ³Bud² and Mellye Darden. Doug was raised in East Texas and attended Kilgore, Pine Tree, and Gilmer schools. He was a long time employee of Stemco in Longview where he took great pride in his work. His number one goal for fellow employees was that everyone be treated with respect. Honesty was Doug¹s greatest virtue and that was what he expected of others. He believed that if you could not find something good to say about someone you just needed to keep it to yourself. He enjoyed woodworking, loved watching old movies and was addicted to Macintosh computers. He always dreamt of owning a Harley Davidson or Indian motorcycle, wanted to bring back chivalrous behavior and valued fine craftsmanship. He often quipped that conversation and handwriting were two of the greatest lost arts. Doug started spending eternity with His Heavenly Father on Monday, November 16, 2009. His remaining family is rejoicing with those who greeted him at the Pearly Gates of Heaven. Doug is survived by two sons, Danny Lee Darden of East Mountain and Justin Taylor Darden of Longview; one daughter, Katie Marie Darden and one grand child, Haylee Michelle Blankenship of White Oak; his parents, Bud and Mellye Darden of White Oak; three sisters and brothers-in law, Gina and Jimmy Hasley of Aledo, Texas, Leigh Ann and Mickey Bryce of White Oak, Dee Laine and Jon Harshaw of East Mountain; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a great lifelong friend, Randall Williams, of Nacogdoches, with whom he hopes to cruise the streets of gold for eternity.
