E. Virgil Howell, son of Elmer Virgil Howell and Myrtle Knight, was born December 23, 1917 at home in Holladay. On July 18, 2011, he passed away in the same home where his life began. On August 9, 1978, he married Ann Chipman in the Salt Lake Temple and they have had 33 happy years together. A man of many interests, Virgil graduated with a PhD in Bacteriology and also ran a small insurance business, but one of his greatest loves was teaching religion classes. He helped pioneer bringing CES classes to the stakes and also taught at the BYU-Salt Lake Center. A lover of music, Virgil sang with many groups including the Oratorio Society of Utah and the Swanees. Family has always been important to Virgil and he leaves behind many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews who love him. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11 am at the Holladay 18th Ward, 2625 Milo Way, Holladay. There will be a viewing Friday night at the Cottonwood Memorial Mortuary, 4670 S Highland Drive from 6-8pm as well as 9:30-10:30 am prior to services Saturday.
