Shain, Earl Leroy, 79, loving husband, devoted father, and wonderful grandfather, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011. He was born on November 1, 1931 in Sullivan, IL to Henry Walter and Arvilla Fern (Wickisier) Shain, the oldest of 11 children. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, John, Russell, and Shirley. After serving in the Army, Earl returned to Wichita in 1954 and went to work for Cessna Aircraft, retiring after 41 years of service. He then went to work for Dillons and was an ambassador of good will and smiles that many of his customers will always remember. His hobbies and interests included woodworking, gardening, and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity as well as serving with the Eastpoint Mission Group. Earl is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ada Shain; sons, Richard Shain and Terry (Susan) Shain; grandchildren, Ian Shain, Tyler Shain, Cade Norton, and Savanna Winger; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters. Visitation: Tuesday from 6 – 8 pm. Funeral: 10 am, Wednesday, both at Lakeview Funeral Home. The family would like to emphasize their desire that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Eastpoint Church of Christ Missions Committee, 747 N. 127th St., Wichita, KS 67206.
