Earl Leon Phillips, 73, of Lubbock went to be with the Lord Friday, December 3, 2010. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Broadview Baptist Church. Brother Ed Clark will officiate. He was born January 24, 1937 in Harlingen, Texas to Oscar Golden Phillips and Shirley Breitling Phillips. He was raised all over the continental U. S. due to his father’s employment as a pipeline construction worker. The family maintained a home in Lubbock and he attended Chris Harwell Elementary, O.L. Slaton Jr. High, Lubbock High School and graduated from Monterey High School in 1961. He joined the Air Force in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1960. After serving his country, he returned to Lubbock and finished his education. He worked in pipeline construction for most of his adult life and traveled the world with various pipeline construction companies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Wanda Phillips Johnston, and grandson-in-law Arron Tidwell. He is survived by his son Scott Lee Phillips (Teddie) and his daughter Lynn Phillips Berlanga (Beno), four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and a brother Leroy Phillips of Spaulding, Oklahoma. Cremation will be handled by Sanders Funeral Home of Lubbock.
