Ed Lefty Canterbury, 71, of Safety Harbor, Florida passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Morton Plant Mease Countryside Hospital after a long battle with Parkinsons disease and dementia.

Born March of 1937 in Mingo County, West Virginia. Ed married his high-school sweetheart Beverly W. Canterbury in August 1956 and celebrated the birth of their son Mark in June 1959. Ed and his family lived in Pinellas County, Florida for 19 years before moving to Marietta, Georgia. From Georgia they moved to Muskegon, Michigan and returned to Pinellas County in 1990. He worked at Sealed Power for 25 years and CMB Marketing in Lakeland, Florida for 10 years.

Ed loved sports. In high school, he played baseball where he got his nickname, Lefty, as a left-handed pitcher, and was quarterback of the football team. He was an avid golfer throughout his adult life. With his employer, Sealed Power, Ed was involved with NASCAR. He enjoyed spending time with Mark at sporting events including baseball and NASCAR, traveling, collecting wine, fishing and spending time with family and friends. In addition, he was a former Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Seminole (Florida) Lodge #2519.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beverly; his son Mark Edward Canterbury; brothers Gene Canterbury, David Canterbury, Frank Canterbury of Michigan, Gerald Canterbury of West Virginia, and sister Mary Brown of California; brother Chris Canterbury proceeded Ed in passing. Ed is also survived by half-brothers Brian Canterbury, Steve Canterbury and Jimmy Hutchinson of Michigan; half-sisters Tina Canterbury of Michigan, Debbie Rothrock of North Carolina, and Susie Hutchinson of West Virginia; as well as a large extended family of nieces and nephews.

There are those whose lives

and their light shines on
in the lives theyve touched
for so many years.
