Edith D. Nauman passed away on Friday, January 13, 2012. She suffered two bouts of congestive heart failure over the Christmas holidays and was placed in Hospice care at Kearny Mesa Convalescent Hospital.
Edith was born in the Philippines, but she was predominantly of Spanish descent. Edith met her Army-Air Corps husband, Donald, before World War II while she was attending the University of Santo Thomas in Manila. Edith majored in Home Economics and obtained her Bachelor's degree. They were married, had their first child and were abruptly separated when the Philippines came under Japanese occupation after the fall of Bataan & Corregidor. Unbeknownst to Edith, her husband was captured in this battle and was sent to Japan where he served three-and-a half years as a prisoner of war. Edith spent these years searching for her husband at POW camps in the Philippines. After the war, they were reunited and were never apart until death took Donald at age eighty-eight on March 26, 2006. They are together now and rest in the eternal light and love of God.
Edith has lived with her family in San Diego since 1958. She worked for over twenty-five years in Pacific Beach as the owner and sole beautician for Edith's Hairstyling. She made many friends over the years and they and her family will miss her dearly. Edith is survived by two children, Carol and Charlotte; five grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
The family would ask, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Heart Association and the Diabetes Foundation.
