Mrs. Edna Brown, age 74, of Antioch, CA, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012 surrounded by the love of family and friends. Edna, an only child, was born on July 27, 1937 in Denmark, South Carolina, to Gladys Ray and Walter Andrew Richards. She later met and married Richard John Henry Brown in Passaic, New Jersey with whom she brought five children into the world: Gretchen, Jacqueline, Richard Jr., Walter, and Gladys. Throughout her life she was devoted to helping others – in her professional life as an E.R. nurse and as a mental health counselor. She also demonstrated her love for people in her private life through activities such as feeding the homeless, and serving as a peer counselor to family, friends, and colleagues. A devout Baptist, Mrs. Brown enjoyed making her community a better place by living out her faith. Her hobbies included entertaining at family gatherings, bowling, arts and crafts, computers, conversations with family and friends, and shopping. Edna is survived by her partner Adolf of San Francisco, CA; biological and adopted daughters Jacqueline Brown of Antioch, CA, Mickele Brown-Clay of Oakland, CA, Catherine Negongseke, and Sharon Clarke of Antioch, CA; sons Richard Brown, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ and Walter Andrew Brown of Oxnard, CA; son-in-law Dr. Francis Gyorkey of Sacramento, CA; biological and adopted grandsons Kaja Brown-Hilliard and Edmond Brown of Phoenix, AZ, Joshua Brown of Las Vegas, NV, Chris Phomsoubanh, Kema Negongseke of Antioch, CA, and Styker Negongseke of Reno, NV; adopted granddaughter Wyluva Negongseke of Reno, NV; great-grandsons De'Vion Brown, Donovan Brown, and Isaiah Brown of Phoenix, AZ, Ky Brown, Jayden Brown, and Joshua Brown, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV; great-granddaughters Priscilla Brown of Phoenix, AZ, as well as Aniyah Brown, and Savannah Brown of Las Vegas, NV; and cousins Daisy of Charlotte, NC, Kim Lipscomb of Passaic, NJ, and Pastor Wilbert Norman of Columbus, OH. Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard, daughters Gladys Brown of San Francisco, CA, and Rev. Gretchen Brown of Phoenix, AZ, son-in-law Dr. Gary Sullivan of Antioch, CA, and grandson Jordan Brown of Las Vegas, NV. Likewise she leaves behind her best friend Janice Dominski of Daly City, CA who she truly loved; close friends Renya of Pittsburg, CA, Yolanda, and Donna of San Francisco, CA; the beloved staff at Sincere Supportive Services including peer counselors Courtney and Heather along with her many clients, cousins and friends too numerous to list here but who are not forgotten.
