Brattleboro- Edward George,"Ed" Anderson, 62, of Highland Street died Wednesday morning, June 22, 2011 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer. Ed was born in Washington, D.C. on January 2, 1949 the son of Francis and Jayne (Holton) Anderson. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro and was a graduate of Brattleboro Union High School, Class of 1967. He went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged from active service in December of 1972. He was a member of the V.F.W. Carl M. Dessaint Post #1034 in Brattleboro. Ed held various jobs over the years starting in 1965 when he went to work at the former Howard Johnsons Restaurant. Following military service he worked for Brattleboro Kiln Dry, Friendly's Restaurant and Hinsdale Raceway. He finished his career employed for many years for the Putney Central School, a position he thoroughly enjoyed. Additionally he worked for the town of Brattleboro at Brooks Memorial Library on a part-time basis. Many times during his illness Ed expressed his deep admiration for the staff at Putney Central School and considered them friends. He gained a new love for the children while at Putney Central. In his later years Ed became mellower and considered himself a Christian. He tried hard to help others as well as to get people to laugh with his quick wit. Ed will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and his spirit of friendship. Of his hobbies and interests he enjoyed music, mostly jazz, reading, especially true crime and history, cars, of which he was a proud owner of a 1980 Corvette, and he loved animals. Ed was a faithful and devoted husband and loving father of two daughters. On June 11, 1973 in Brattleboro he was married to Christine "Chris" Wells of Jackson, Michigan, who he met while serving in the Air Force. Besides his wife of 38 years he leaves his two daughters, Michelle Anderson and her fiancée Michael McNally of Putnam, Connecticut and Gloria Anderson of Brattleboro, his aunt, Barbara Packard of Brattleboro and two cousins, Pamela Loney and Karlie Borst. Additionally he is survived by one nephew, two nieces and several cousins. A Memorial service in celebration of Ed's life will be conducted on Wednesday, July 6'Th at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church on Western Avenue with Pastor Jeffrey Galbraith of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church of Greenfield officiating. A reception will follow the services to be held in the church reception hall. There are no calling hours at the funeral home. Burial of his urn with full military honors will be in the Anderson family lot in Morningside Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Ed's name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
