Charlestown, NH - Edward George Tidd, 86, of Hastings Court in Charlestown, a former resident of Westminster, died peacefully Wednesday evening, December 21, 2011 at his home. Mr. Tidd was born in Westfield, Mass on January 29, 1925 the son of James and Margaret (Parker) Tidd. He was raised and educated in Bellows Falls where he attended public schools. A proud veteran of World War II he served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps stationed in the Pacific Theater of Operation and following his honorable discharge from active service returned to Brattleboro. He had been employed for many years at the former BookPress in Brattleboro and later worked in the maintenance department at the Austine School in Brattleboro. Mr. Tidd was a member of the American Legion, Brattleboro Post #5, V.F.W. Carl M. Dessaint Post #1034 and held membership in the F.O. Eagles, Brattleboro Aerie #2445. Of his pastimes and interests he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and tinkering around his home. On March 15, 1975 in Guilford he was married to Barbara (Snider) Wetherby who survives. Besides his wife of 36 years he leaves, one son, David Tidd, two daughters Brenda Breslend and Sandra Hebert, five stepchildren, Ginger Desautels, Pepper Wetherby, Donald Wetherby, Susan Clark and Gary Wetherby, three brothers, Joel Tidd, Michael Tidd and Robert Tidd, two sisters, Bea Bartlett and Rosey Deluco, 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Donald Tidd and two brothers, James Tidd and Harold Tidd. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Richard O'Donnell, pastor, celebrant. A reception will follow the Mass to be held at the F.O. Eagles Club on Chickering Drive. Burial with full military honors will be in Westminster Cemetery. Friends may call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 P.M.
