Edward Glassmeyer

EDWARD GLASSMEYER

Mr. Edward Glassmeyer, 94, died September 25, 2009 at his home in Vero Beach. He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and lived in Vero Beach for 23 years coming from New York City.

Mr. Glassmeyer was a 1936 graduate of Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Army during the World War II in Germany as a member of the O.S.S.

Mr. Glassmeyer was Senior Vice President at the investment firm, Blyth and Company in New York City. He also served on the Boards of Directors of Emery Air Freight Corporation, Genesco Inc., Heizer Corporation, Genzyme and Burndy Corporation. He served as the President of the Bond Club of New York. After retiring in 1969, he was elected President of Athens College, Athens Greece. In 1973 he was elected Chairman of Interamerica Life Insurance Company in Athens. He was a Trustee of the Archaelogical Institute of America and a Fellow of the American Numismatic Society.

Mr. Glassmeyer was a member of The Community Church, Vero Beach, The Propeller Club, Athens Greece; the Princeton Club of New York City, NY and The Reading Room, York Harbor, ME.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Martha Glassmeyer of Vero Beach; son, Edward F. Glassmeyer of Darien, CT; daughters, Elizabeth Treynor of Palos Verdes Estates, CA, Mary Maloney of Padanaram, MA and Edith Heilman of Oakland, CA; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. His first wife, Elizabeth Fellows Glassmeyer, predeceased him on September 6, 1982.

SERVICES: Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m at Grace Chapel, The Community Church, Vero Beach with Rev. Dr. Robert Baggott officiating.
