Edward A. Hochhalter, 65, died December 9, 2009, in his home. Services will be held on Monday, December 14, at 11:30AM at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with Rev. Ed Wehner and Rev. Russ Kovash officiating.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 13, from 1:30-4PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with a prayer service at 2:30PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ed was born on November 21, 1944 to Edward and Rose (Schneider) Hochhalter. He and his two elder sisters, Betty and Loretta, grew up on a farm near Hebron, ND. Ed graduated from Hebron High School in 1962 and shortly thereafter joined the Navy. He was proud to have been a part of “Operation Deep Freeze” on the U.S.S. Thomas J. Gary, and to travel the world with his comrades.
Upon his return, he married Ellen (Franchuk) Hochhalter on June 9, 1969, at St. Patrick’s Church in Dickinson, ND. They had two children, Chad and Nicole. Ed refinished furniture, taught wood working classes, raised cattle, and was a volunteer fire fighter. He joined the Army National Guard and worked on many projects with them in North Dakota, California, Japan, Italy and Canada. He retired from the National Guard in 2005. Ed and Ellen relocated to Bismarck in 2003, where he worked for Lancashire Distribution until he retired in 2007. He was a man of many hobbies including reading, wood working, fishing and playing pinochle.
Ed is survived by his wife, Ellen Hochhalter; their son, Chad Hochhalter, Fargo; daughter, Nicole (Ben) Gitler, Minneapolis; grandchildren McKenzie and Cooper Hochhalter; and his sister, Loretta (Walt) Jenkins, Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Rose Hochhalter, and by his sister, Betty (Bob) Waller.
