Mr. Edward J. Galen

GALEN Edward John, 84, of Darden Ave in Suffolk, VA, formerly of Needham, MA and Sun City Center, FL, died on May 21, 2009 in Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, VA. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Ann (McDonough) Galen.

Devoted father of John E. and his wife Brenda Dale of Suffolk, VA and his son Christopher J. and his wife Ruth of Apollo Beach, FL. Loving grandfather of Kathleen Galen of Camarillo, CA and Emily, Zachary & Jeremy Galen of Apollo Beach, FL. He is also survived by several nieces, a nephew, and cousins in Massachusetts.

Funeral from the STANTON FUNERAL HOME, 786 Mt. Auburn St. (Rt 16) Watertown on Thursday at 8 AM. Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Watertown at 9 AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday 6-8 PM. Interment VA National Cemetery, Bourne at 11:30 AM.

Ed served 12 years in the US Navy as a Fireman First Class during WWII and the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Breckenridge and the USS Bryce Canyon. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart. He was an Alumnus of Tufts University in Cambridge, MA, where he obtained a degree in Engineering. He retired from GTE Government Systems in Needham, MA after more than 25 years of employment. His favorite pastimes were Boston-team sports, cooking and gardening: tomatoes were his specialty.
