SHREWSBURY: Edward W. Anderson, 88, passed peacefully at home May 21, 2011 surrounded by his family after a brief illness. His dearly loved wife of 56 years Ruth M. (MacDougall) Anderson passed in 1998. He leaves his daughter, Nancy R. Plante and her husband Jeffrey of Worcester, two sons, Bruce E. and Stuart J. both of Shrewsbury. Two grandsons, Nicholas J. Plante of Worcester, Daniel E. Plante of West Boylston, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Evelyn Lang Rivard and his brother Wilfred Anderson. Mr. Anderson was born September 22, 1922 in Worcester the son of the late William and Hilma (Schroeder) Anderson. Edward was a heavy equipment operator for more than 35 years with The Town of Shrewsbury Highway Department. After retiring he worked at Heald Machine Co. in Worcester. Mr. Anderson was a proud US Army World War II veteran serving in The European African Middle Eastern Theatre with the 65th Infantry Division of General Patton's 3rd Army. He fought in France and Germany where he was also wounded and awarded The Purple Heart. He was an active member and past National President of The 65th Infantry Division Association traveling throughout the country for years attending many reunions. He was an active parishioner of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shrewsbury. Edward was an avid self- taught musician playing several instruments particularly his beloved tuba. He played with several bands and groups including The Alethia Grotto Band, Pulaski Band and Trinity (Lutheran) Symphonette. He also volunteered as a carpenter for The Boy Scouts of America at their Treasure Valley camp helping with various projects well into his eighties. His family wishes to thank all of the doctors and nurses especially Dr. Linda Pape and U Mass Hospice nurse Kim Beaudry for the extraordinary, compassionate care they provided to Mr. Anderson during his final weeks of life. The family asks that you honor and remember him with donations to Veteran's Inc., 69 Grove St. Worcester MA 01605. Funeral & Calling Hours A Service celebrating the life of Edward Anderson will be Tuesday May 24th at 10 am in Trinity Episcopal Church 440 Main St. in Shrewsbury. He will then be laid to rest with Military Honors in Pine Grove Cemetery in North Grafton. All are invited to calling hours at THE RONEY FUNERAL HOME 152 Worcester St. in NORTH GRAFTON Monday May 23rd from 5 to 8 pm.
