Deacon Edwin Gamble Sr., beloved father and grandfather returned to God's loving arms on Sunday, December 18, 2011 surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Newark, NJ he was the youngest of two sons born to the late Thomas and Rose Gamble, Sr. Edwin graduated from The Passaic High School where he was class president. He participated in numerous activities including local boxing tournaments and singing groups and in his later years served local youth as a Cub Scout Leader. Honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1952 Edwin served proudly during the Korean Conflict. After military service he was employed at Botany Mills US Rubber, Thomas's English Muffins and the Passaic School system where after 20 years of services he retired in November, while employed awards and accolades. Edwin married the love of his life, Mamie Clements and shared 35 beautiful years together. They had three children Gerald, Edwin Jr., and Mimi. Together they educated their children on God's foundation and were later with three grandchildren, Antonio, Tiffany and Mia Figueroa who lovingly called him Papa. A lifelong member of The St. Paul Baptist Church, where he served on the Trustee Board and was former vice chairman of the Deacon Board. He was the Deacon in charge of the beautifying ministry, member of the Brotherhood Ministry, he sang in numerous choirs and was recording secretary of his beloved male chorus. A man of honesty and integrity, Edwin's legacy was simple-God, truth, and sacrifice. Edwin was predeceased by his wife Mamie, son Gerald and Brother Thomas. He leaves to cherish his memory son Edwin Jr., daughter, Mimi Figueroa, son-in-law, Antonio Figueroa, three grandchildren, Antonio, Mia and Tiffany Figueroa, three sisters-in-law, Lucille Logan, Juanita Clements and Sallie Gamble, two special cousins, Julie Mae Crockett and Alonzo Moore, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
