Edwin J. "Big G" Gernhardt, 79, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, he worked as a set-up-man with Zollner Corp. for 29 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Wayndale Baptist Church and a U. S. Air Force Veteran. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Julia Gernhardt, of Fort Wayne; daughters, Dawn M. (John ) Seelig of Fort Wayne & Linda S. (Tom) Bressler, of Norfolk NE; son, Andrew J. (Tina) Gernhardt of Fort Wayne; brothers, Arthur (Barbara) Gernhardt and Allen (Ruth) Gernhardt, and sister, Carol (Bob) Carey all of Fort Wayne, grandchildren, Timothy, Stacie, Teresa, Marc, Brandon and Jared . great grandchild Kiley. He was preceded in death by a daughter Gail L. and parents, Jesse E. & Mary E. Gernhardt. Service is 10 am, Tuesday at D.O. McComb and Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, 6301 Fairfield Avenue with Rev. Wayne Gullion officiating. Calling, 2 to 5 & 7 to 9 pm, Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Waynedale Baptist Church. To sign the online guest book, go to www.mccombandsons.com.
