Mrs. Edythe Vickers
August 27, 1924 – July 18, 2011

Edythe Estelle Burns Vickers, 86, passed away on July 18, 2011, after a lengthy illness. A loving wife and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Charles M. Vickers, and is survived by two daughters and their spouses (Evelyn Alice and Jeffery Marvin of Austin, and Jacquelyn Estelle and Lavell Thrasher of Cullman), two sons and their spouses (Charles and Lorna Vickers of Huntsville, and J. Michael and Janelle Vickers of Blaine, MN), , three grandsons, two granddaughters, one great grandson, several nieces and nephews, and her caregiver, Ms. Edith Summerall. It was a blessing that she was able to have her family at her bedside when she passed.

Mrs. Vickers was born in Jacksonville, FL, and moved to Huntsville in 1957, where she was active as a substitute teacher and in many organizations through the years. Notably she served as an officer with the Huntsville Community Watch during the 1980’s and 90’s. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Madison and active as a Daughter of the King, an organization dedicated to prayer and service. She was known for her loving smile and giving spirit, and will be missed until we join her with our Father.

Visitation will be at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Wednesday from 6:0pm till 8:00pm. Services will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church on Thursday at 11:00am, with graveside services to follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to the Daughter's of the King, Mary and Martha Chapter at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.
