Horstmann, Elaine C. – Elaine Charyl (Morgart) Horstmann, age 79, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2011 after a short illness. Surrounded by her loving family, daughter, Jennifer Dowen, son-in-law, Ronald Dowen Jr. and grandchildren, Christopher, Megan, Matthew and Rachael Dowen, she went peacefully home to be with the Lord.

Born August 18, 1932 in Schenectady, NY, she was the only child of the late Ben E. Morgart and Virginia (Eldred) Graves. As a child she spent her summer's traveling between Schenectady, NY and Davenport, Iowa to spend time with both of her parents. After graduating high school she worked briefly for the State of New York, before marrying and settling down to raise her 6 children: David Hancox (Albany, NY), Kathleen Izzo (Maine), Karen Hancox (Arlington, VA), Steven Hancox (NY), Michael Hancox (Charlottesville, VA) and Jennifer Dowen (Orlando, FL).

On March 18, 1978, Elaine married the love of her life, Robert J. Horstmann in a small civil ceremony in Essex, NY. For their honeymoon, Bob and Elaine took a cruise to the Caribbean and visited Jamaica. Elaine considered this cruise one of the highlights of her life.
After becoming a widow on October 30, 1991, Elaine spent several years working at the New York State Department of Labor in Saratoga Springs, NY as an office assistant.

In the spring of 2005, Elaine set off on another journey by relocating to Florida with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She spent time in Jacksonville, Lake Wales, Kissimmee and Mt. Dora. She especially enjoyed her time spent in Clearwater Beach, taking in the sights and the white, sandy beaches. She also loved spending time at Old Town in Kissimmee browsing the shops, watching the "old time car" parade, eating funnel cake and most of all enjoying the Elvis Presley impersonator.

Elaine enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow. She was an avid reader and always awaiting a new best-seller to be released. She was a collector of penguins and loved watching Dancing with the Stars and Elvis movies. Most recently, she was told that she would be welcoming another grandson into the world and was anticipating his birth, in the spring.

Elaine is also survived by her grandchildren, Ryan, Joshua and Jacob and one great-grandchild, Elizabeth.

Services will be held at a future date in 2012 and burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Paralyzed Veterans of America. www.SupportVeterans.org
