Elaine Hilda Backus Grimm Killene, eldest daughter of the late Elmer and Hilda Backus of Cincinnati, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, died peacefully in the state of grace on November 12, 2011. She lived 91 years after her birth on July 6, 1920. Elaine was the beloved wife of Charles V. Grimm for 48 years before his death in 1991. Elaine is survived by her only son, Michael B. Grimm, and daughter-in-law Virginia K. Grimm, of Flower Mound, TX, and three grandsons in whom she delighted—Kevin M. Grimm of Austin, TX, Keith N. Grimm and his wife Talina Grimm, of Katy, TX, and Michael C. Grimm, also of Katy, TX. Elaine married Elmer C. Killene, Jr., in 1992, and they were together until his death in 1998. Elaine is also survived by her sister Marilyn Naehring of Cincinnati, and many nieces and nephews. Elaine lived her entire life in Cincinnati. She enjoyed travel, social events, art, and loved drawing her own sketches and painting still-life and skylines. She was an avid reader from childhood. She loved animals of all kinds, and particularly the dogs she cared for throughout her life. She enjoyed collecting decorative turtles of all sizes. She had a flare for interior design, and was always dressed fashionably. The family would like to thank the employees of the Lodge Care Center in Loveland, OH, and the staff of Hospice of Cincinnati for their loving care of Elaine.
