Mrs. Hack passed away on Monday January 16th 2012. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Kate Gottlieb Bermak, and the late Seymour Bermak, and the wife of the late Colonel Sidney Hack. She was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University where she earned a bachelor's degree and New York University where she received a master's degree.
As the wife of a professional US Army Officer, Mrs. Hack lived a rich and rewarding life marked by service to others and the community. She was a gracious hostess, and she was beloved by a multitude of friends, indeed, by all who met her in the twenty-five homes she and her husband shared during their many years of military service in the United States and Europe. She and her husband raised three children and is survived by Randolph, Richard and his wife Rosanne, Elizabeth and her husband Philip Lewenthal; Grandson , Richard Jason Hack and his spouse Ansley. She was predeceased by her much loved sister and only sibling, Yvette Israel at an early age. Also surviving are Mrs. Israel's children, Jayne and Steve, who remained especially dear to Mrs. Hack from their childhood to maturity.
Mrs. Hack was invariably optimistic and positive. She was an active and liberal supporter of numerous cultural organizations and charitable causes. She was a member and on the board of the Symphony League and she was an enthusiastic supporter of the Columbia Philharmonic, the Opera Guild and the Palmetto Opera. She was a generous backer of the Museum of Art and she enthusiastically fostered and attended programs performed at the Trustus Theater. Ever willing to help, she never declined to assist others who required support. As she participated in such endeavors, her cheerful cooperation enhanced materially whatever project she undertook.
She was also a duplicate bridge enthusiast, attaining the rank of Gold Life Master. She played in numerous tournaments in the Columbia area.
