Eleanor Harrell Barberousse, 92, a resident of Westminster-Canterbury on Shore Drive, went to be with the Lord on December 30, 2011. A native of Louisiana, she was a home economics teacher and a counselor in schools in that state for 19 years, then became assistant professor of counseling at Auburn University, where she had earned her doctorate degree. In completing her doctoral dissertation, she pioneered the use of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator as a psychological research tool. Later she served as counseling psychologist in the neuro-psychiatric ward of Veterans Hospital in Tuskegee, AL. She and her husband moved to Montgomery County, MD. In 1967 where she served as director of the counseling department and taught psychology courses at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda. She also served as visiting lecturer in counseling at George Washington University. After moving to Virginia Beach in 1983 she taught courses at Regent University and was an active member of Kempsville Presbyterian Church, where she served as a counselor and counseling supervisor. She is survived by her husband, Euell R. Barberousse; a daughter, Virginia B. Weirich of Chesapeake, VA; a grandson, Steven Colclough of Hoover, AL; and two great grandsons, Drew and Harris Colclough of Hoover, AL. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1485 Kempsville Rd., Virginia Beach. A memorial service will be held at Westminster-Canterbury Chapel on Monday at 3 p.m.
