Hinsdale- Eleanor Mae, "Tillie" McCormick, 89, of River Road, died peacefully late Tuesday night, November 8, 2011 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with her family by her side following a brief illness. Tillie was born at home in Hinsdale on October 31, 1922, the daughter of Roger and Margaret (Burke) Streeter. She was raised and educated in Hinsdale graduating from Hinsdale High School with the Class of 1940. She had worked at the former J.E. Mann Store on Main Street in Brattleboro for several years. Tillie was also a devoted homemaker whose life centered around her family. She especially enjoyed time shared with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Active civically, she was a volunteer at the American Red Cross Blood drawings in Brattleboro and for many years served as supervisor of the voter check list for the town of Hinsdale. She enjoyed golf and with her husband she was a member of the Brattleboro Country Club. The McCormicks were seven time champions of the Husband and Wife Golf Tournament held annually at the Country Club. Tillie was a communicant of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Hinsdale and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. Of her other leisure time activities, she enjoyed feeding the birds and chipmunks that visited her yard, loved her flowers and in recent years time with her friends at her weekly fitness and exercise meetings held at the Mill- stream Community Center in Hinsdale. On January 15, 1944 at Saint Joseph's Church in Hinsdale she was married to Edward "Red" McCormick who survives. Besides her loving husband of 67 years she leaves two daughters, Mary Kowalchyk and husband Harry of Liverpool, N.Y., and Ellen Gomarlo and husband John of Winchester, a sister, Sonja Hurley of Brattleboro, her five grandchildren, Kimberly Sather, Jennifer Gile, Allison Odoardi, Bobbi Jo Ball and Edward Gomarlo II. Additionally she leaves eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, James Nolan McCormick, II and a brother, Russell Streeter. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Hinsdale. Committal Rites and burial will follow in Saint Joseph's Parish Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 6 P.M.
